Lossiemouth is a coastal gem that combines stunning white-sand beaches with a rich maritime history and vibrant local culture. This charming town, situated on the Moray coast, offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and engaging activities, all set against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs and the sparkling North Sea.

Flanked by two magnificent beaches, Lossiemouth provides the perfect setting for a memorable seaside escape. The West Beach, with its iconic Covesea Lighthouse, and the East Beach, meeting the town at the mouth of the River Lossie, offer expansive sands ideal for swimming, surfing, and sandcastle-building. Whether you’re exploring the rugged coastline or delving into the town’s fascinating heritage, Lossiemouth promises a diverse and enriching experience. To help you make the most of your visit, we’ve curated an exciting four day itinerary that highlights the best of what this beautiful town has to offer!

Day 1 – Beach and Seaside Fun

Begin your journey in Lossiemouth with a visit to the stunning East Beach. Here, after walking across the brand-new bridge, you will find the pristine white sands, take a refreshing swim, or simply relax and soak up the sun. The beach is perfect for building sandcastles and unwinding amidst nature’s beauty.

Why not book a session of surfing through either SurfABLE or New Wave Surf School?

After your beach adventure, head to The Firth Hotel or The Salt Cellar for a casual lunch, where you can savour a variety of delicious options while taking in the scenic views.

In the afternoon, treat yourself to a refreshing ice cream at either Rizzas or Miele’s, with their wide selection of ice cream flavours providing the perfect complement to your day by the sea.

As the evening draws near, its time to pick somewhere to eat and indulge in a delightful dinner. Where better then Catch 79 which is just around the corner from East Beach. Feast on the freshest seafood while enjoying the sight of planes flying overhead from the nearby RAF base, bringing an exciting end to your first day in Lossiemouth. Alternatively there are a number of places to get fish and chips and enjoy the seaside views.

Day 2 – Exploring History and Heritage

Start your second day in Lossiemouth with a visit to the iconic Covesea Lighthouse. Contact in advance to take a guided tour and learn about its history whilst enjoying the panoramic views of the coast. The lighthouse is an iconic sight and must visit on a trip to Lossiemouth.

Just next door to the lighthouse is two great options that covers all bases for the family. Send dad over to the Golf Dedication Centre to hit some golf balls at Moray’s premier driving range. There is also a putting green for kids. Whilst dad is working out his golf game have a tea or coffee in Twenty-Nineteen Coffee. They offer great breakfasts and lunches, as well as fresh bakes.

There is a lot of amazing history in the town so spend the whole day learning a bit about the town and its surroundings. In the afternoon, explore the Royal Navy & Royal Air Force Heritage Centre, located at the foot of Covesea Lighthouse, to delve into the area’s rich military history.

Head over to the Lossiemouth Fisheries & Community Museum to learn about the town’s maritime heritage or If you prefer a historical excursion just outside of Lossiemouth, visit Spynie Palace, just a short drive away. This impressive ruin, once the residence of the Bishops of Moray, offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s medieval past and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Similiarly if you are based in Lossiemouth you are only a short 10 minute drive away from Duffus Castle.

For dinner, eith enjoy Mediterranean cuisine at The Food Vault where the flavors and ambiance make for a delightful dining experience or head to MacRaj Indian Restaurant to try some of the finest in Indian cooking.

Day 3 – Coastal Exploration

Spend your third day exploring the stunning coastal scenery of Lossiemouth. Begin with a refreshing walk along the West Beach, where you can admire the iconic Covesea Lighthouse in the distance and take in the sweeping views of the Moray Firth.

Alternatively, if you’re a golf enthusiast, play a round at the historic Moray Golf Club. This links course, designed by Old Tom Morris, offers a unique blend of challenging holes and breathtaking coastal views, along with the exciting sight of RAF planes taking off and landing overhead whilst you play. The club has two different courses the Old and the New which are both briliant links experiences.

After your morning activity, enjoy a leisurely lunch/dinner at the Moray Golf Club’s clubhouse or head to The Beach Hut (situated in the beach car park).

Day 4 – Harbour, Leisure and Shopping

Spend your fourth day enjoying the vibrant harbour area and indulging in some leisurely activities and shopping. Fuel up in the morning by eating at Harbour Lights. They offer stunning breakfasts and lunches and are based right next to the harbour.

Walk off a big breakfast with a stroll around Lossiemouth’s picturesque harbour, where you can admire the charming boats and watch the bustling activity of the local fishermen. The harbour area is perfect for a relaxing morning walk, with plenty of spots to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and scenic views.

Enjoy the local shops and boutiques around the harbour for some retail therapy. Pick up unique souvenirs, local crafts and memorbialia. For further retail therapy Elgin is only a short drive or bus journey from Lossiemouth and offers further shopping opportunities from large nationals to local artisans.

Finish your day with a delicious meal at one of Lossiemouth’s excellent eateries. Consider dining at The Stotfield Hotel for a relaxed and satisfying meal that gives brilliant views of the Golf Gourse and the west beach.
