Buckie’s story
Formed by the merging of several separate nearby fishing villages such as Nether Buckie, Easter Buckie, Yardie and Portessie.
Cluny Harbour built in 1877 by Cluny family cost of £60,000 was the major fishing port of the Moray Firth and had the largest steam drifter fleet in Scotland.
Today’s visitor comes primarily the harbour views but if you stop and explore, the locals will regale you, in the local Doric drawl, with the fishwives tales, their proud heritage sailing the seas and building the ships to sail it, and local unsung location gems to explore off the regular tourist paths.
Buckie is a golfer’s paradise. Two links courses less than 10 minutes apart – Buckpool Golf Club and Strathlene Golf Club. Two of the seven links courses in Moray; two of seventeen in Speyside.
