As the popular Summer School calendar returns, Moray Art Centre has developed a selection of inclusive and inspiring 3-day workshops, so that more people can access the wellbeing benefits of a creative Summer School.

Each year from June to September, Moray Art Centre, hosts a vibrant Summer School in Findhorn Bay, taught by award winning artists and tutors – attracting both local art enthusiasts and international visitors alike.

Last years’ tutor collective returns once again, as well as many new faces, who have tutored 1-day workshops over the last 12 months. These new tutors bring with them the opportunity to be part of a shorter, 3-day Summer School experience, exploring creative subjects like Needle Felting, Cyanotype Printing and Midsummer Landscape Painting.

Inclusivity is at the forefront of how Moray Art Centre supports the community across the region and beyond. These shorter courses address accessibility, and the team at Moray Art Centre have worked closely with the community over the last 12 months to understand how to design for work and family commitments, which can leave individuals ‘time short’.

Leah Davis, pop-artist and Moray Art Centre’s Manager shares: “Introducing 3-day Summer School workshops, opens up the opportunity to many more people across Moray and beyond. As a charity, Moray Art Centre’s aims are to make the arts as inclusive and accessible as possible. We do this by listening, asking questions and designing for our local community. We can’t wait to welcome more people to these 3-day Summer School workshops, led by well-loved, local tutors”.

Alongside these shorter Summer Schools, an inspiring selection of 5-day Summer School workshops are also listed in the calendar, with previous Summer School attendees booking again. The centre proudly welcomes back award-winning tutors like Alison Johnston – a local and award-winning artist, for an immersive workshop exploring the sea using oil paints.

Jonathan Shearer also returns, diving into interpretations of the local landscape through a mix of indoor and outdoor painting experiences. In addition, Allan Davies returns for another portraiture workshop, offering creatives the opportunity to work directly from a model to progress and refine techniques.

Lunch and materials are included in all workshops, which sets Moray Art Centre apart from other Summer School programmes.

Bill Austin, Trustee says: “As a charity, the value our Summer School community receive when coming together to refresh over a nutritious lunch, sharing and exchanging ideas, contributes towards the complete experience – which has been designed with wellbeing, connection and creativity in mind”.

A truly inspiring location for the senses, Moray Art Centre is situated in an ecologically, purpose built space, which includes four artists’ studios and three gallery spaces. The centre also has an established surrounding garden, where many of the Summer School students choose to work from, to experience the wellbeing benefits of creativity out in nature.
