December, 1900. Three keepers disappear from their post on the Flannan Isles lighthouse, west of the Outer Hebrides.
What happened to the men has never been answered and becomes the talking point for three technicians who find themselves stranded on the remote station. Join Davie, Alec and Mac as they delve into the mystery and step into the shoes of the missing keepers. Follow them as they navigate the choppy seas of speculation, myth and folklore, and as they ponder the unfathomable question; “what could cause three men to vanish into the night?”.
Some stones, of course, are best left unturned…
Fresh from its sell-out run in 2022, Keepers of the Light by playwright Izzy Gray returns to Scottish shores. An old mystery told through a modern lens, the play combines traditional storytelling with contemporary staging, movement direction by Ana Norrie-Toch and an original score by Ewan Watson.
The play will tour lighthouse communities, including those with direct links to the story, thanks to a donation which was received from the Northern Lighthouse Board’s Heritage Trust.
Recommended ages 12+ Please note: this show has flashing/strobe lighting scenes, and the cafe will not be open for this event as it runs straight through with no intermission.
“It’s a testament to Izzy’s talent as a writer and her compassion in handling what was a significant and very sad part of NLB’s history that the play was such a success.” – Northern Lighthouse Board
“A spectacularly original production with wit, delicacy, and just the right amount of brine.”
“A Marvellously constructed piece.”
