Visit Moray Speyside 2023 Tourism Conference

The Moray Speyside tourism conference, held on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at Elgin Town Hall unfolded amidst delightful sunny weather, drawing nearly 120 attendees from both within and beyond the region. Among the participants were representatives from various sectors, including hotels, visitor attractions, self-catering accommodation, and specialised tour guides.

We heard from Marc Crothall, Scottish Tourism Alliances’s Chief Executive and Moray’s regional director of VisitScotland, David Jackson about strategic direction for tourism in Scotland and the importance of collaboration.

The day was spread out into breakout rooms where we learned about the importance of creating an amazing customer experience from Bala McAlinn of Complete Works. There was something for everyone in the morning breakout session as Stephen Whitelaw returned to give a masterclass on Digital Marketing for Tourism and Andrea Nichols of Green Tourism looked at how your business could become more sustainable.

In the afternoon breakout session, we got up to speed on the Short-Term Letting Regulations with Fiona Campbell of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers and Joanna Millar of the law firm Gilson Gray.

The day was rounded off with Stephen Whitelaw looking at ways you could improve your digital platform by analysing what your competitors were doing and Ghillie Basan explored the ways businesses in Moray could develop luxury food and drink experiences that would bring tourists to the region.
